Tania James - Silver & Gold Jewellery
I make jewellery in Cambridge in my Felton Street workshop. This is a peaceful environment, essential to spark ideas. Although I use gold, I work mostly in silver and enjoy the fluidity of the metal. The stones I use are not gemstones, but semi-precious and are generally the rounded cabochon, which drop beautifully into the designs. The influences for my work spring mainly from nature – seeds, leaves, grasses all lending ideas of form. Experimenting with shapes and finishes is one of the most exciting aspects of my work. Using shapes in the stones and echoing them in silver, magnifies the form and texture. The jewellery I design can be worn not only on high days and holidays, but also as a daily pleasure. |
